Mark Your Calendars: North Rim Grand Canyon Reopening for The Summer Soon!
In an announcement that made hikers everywhere grab their boots mid-stride, the National Park Service revealed the much-anticipated reopening of the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. Known as the shy, lesser-visited sibling of the more popular South Rim, the North Rim has been off-limits to overnight visitors since October.
But, according to the National Park Service, from 6 a.m. on May 15th, explorers can once again lace up those walking shoes.
North Rim Amenities
This opening doesn’t just mark the return of gazing over dramatic landscapes and taking in some of nature’s finest work. It also marks the resumption of camping, lodging, retail, food and beverage services, and the gas station.
The Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim is also opening its doors. Its dining room is ready to serve breakfasts that’ll keep you fueled for the trails, lunches to re-energize, and dinners to reflect on a day well spent. Just make sure you reserve your table for dinner—rumor has it, the sunset views are worth booking ahead for.
North Rim 2024 Season Dates
The North Rim’s 2024 season runs until October 15th. So, you’ve got plenty of good canyon weather to plan that trek to Bright Angel Point or the Redwall Bridge. But know that the winter conditions will usher out day visitors around November 30th. The Ranger programs at the Roaring Springs Overlook Kiosk also wrap up on October 15th. So mark those calendars, folks!
Last year, the reopening was delayed due to a particularly active winter that dumped over 250 inches of snow on the park. But when life gives you snow, the North Rim offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing opportunities, accessible with a backcountry permit. As for the South Rim, it’s the ever-dependable, year-round option, always ready for visitors.
